Residential Treatment for Alcoholism, Drug Abuse and other Addictive Disorders

Levels of Care

Acadiana Addiction Center provides a comprehensive continuum of care for male and female adults with addictive disorders and co-occurring mental disorders. Our detox, inpatient, partial hospitalization, and outpatient treatment options are cost-effective and give patients access to the least restrictive level of care. All programs offer individualized treatment in a supportive and nurturing environment.

Levels of care include:

Assessment

AAC offers a free initial consultation to assess the need for treatment.  Through this comprehensive assessment, our trained professionals will determine to what degree an individual has a drug or alcohol problem.  The best level of care and treatment will be determined through information gathered from this assessment.

Detoxification

Our professionally monitored detox program ensures a safe and comfortable management of physical and psychological symptoms.  Patients are managed around the clock by medical and nursing staff to provide a safe withdrawal from alcohol and other drugs.  The overall treatment plan in initiated, and the patient undergoes a thorough assessment process which includes medical, nursing, nutritional, psychosocial, psychological and psychiatric history.

Primary Residential Treatment/ Inpatient Rehabilitation

This Program consists of a 30, 60 or 90 day Intensive Inpatient stay.  This length of stay is determined from the results of the assessment and based on the individual needs of the patient.  Patients at this level begin treatment in an intensive and medically monitored therapeutic environment.  The medical and clinical staff monitors the patient’s medical, and security needs 24 hours a day.  The primary focus is on emotional stabilization, education about the illness, development of recovery resources and skills, and personal adoption of recovery principles.

Patients, as a group, are encouraged to build a healthy community and interact with one another to learn and practice the tools necessary to sustain ongoing recovery.  Individual counselors are assigned, to work with the patients and their family members to monitor the patient’s progress in meeting identified treatment plan goals.

Continuing care plans, which are begun upon admission, are constantly monitored and changed to fit the patient’s needs.  Communication with referral sources and family is ongoing throughout this phase of treatment.

Acadiana Addiction’s program was designed to recognize the importance of family involvement in the treatment process.  Family members and significant others are encouraged to participate in weekly educational programs.  At the appropriate time, family members come to Acadiana Addiction for several days and take part in structured educational and family counseling sessions.

Partial Hospitalization/ Day Treatment

The Adult Partial Hospital Day/Treatment Chemical Dependency Program is available for patients, who no longer need 24-hour, around the clock care, but do need more structure than Intensive Outpatient Treatment would provide. The Partial Program includes a comprehensive medical, psychosocial and psychological history group and individual therapy, family programs and self-help support groups.

This results-oriented treatment approach for substance abuse offers the same quality of clinical care as our Inpatient Program and allows patients to return home to a safe and supportive environment in the evening. The program operates six days a week and lasts up to eight hours per day. Monday-Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. –  5:00 p.m., but can be individualized to fit the patient’s needs and may include weekends or customized hours. Boarding is also available.  Family involvement in the treatment experience is both encouraged and supported as participants are challenged to practice their newly acquired skills in actual family relationship experiences

Extended Residential Care

Extended Care is a treatment option available for patients who have completed primary care at AAC or another program.  This level of care allows patients to continue the process of building their recovery and an opportunity to work though ongoing issues in a safe and nurturing environment.

This is especially recommended for patient with a history of chronic or continual use, or who have struggled with self defeating behavior patterns which prevent or severely impede their recovery process.

It is common for these patients to experience difficulty adjusting to real life situations early in recovery.  Through this extended care environment, the patient will be able to strengthen their recovery foundation which increases their chances of continuing a lifetime of sober living.
Our clinical intention is to pick up where Primary Treatment left off in a structured setting where the patient is monitored 24 hours a day.  Extended Residential Care provides a safe and therapeutic environment to continue their journey of recovery.

This level of care requires a minimum three month commitment and provides the bridge that allows the patient to continue learning and applying recovery skills in a serene setting until they are ready to move forward.  The patients progress through three phases while in extended care.  Each phase addresses specific life skills needed for successful recovery.  The patients are expected to demonstrate the necessary skills, knowledge, and awareness required in each phase.

Intensive Outpatient

This evening program, which provides at least 10 hours of therapy a week, includes a combination of educational groups, process groups, individual therapy and family therapy. Each patient is assigned an individual counselor with whom the patient meets regularly to continue to work on issues identified in treatment and to monitor progress in meeting treatment plan objectives.  Treatment includes a comprehensive medical, psychosocial and psychological history, group and individual therapy, family programs and self-help support groups.  In this level of care, patients must be able to integrate successfully into a 12-step recovery group with minimal supervision and be currently living in a supportive and stable environment.

Outpatient Counseling

Acadiana Addiction Center has an extensive network of clinicians to help find the right placement for patients and their families who need a referral for individual outpatient therapy.

Continuing Care

Acadiana Addiction Center outlines written, structured plan to provide support for persons returning home from treatment. Staff recommendations, as well as patient's individual plans, are incorporated into the continuing care plan. This vital transition helps to bridge the higher levels of care, to a reliance on the recovering 12 step community. This phase of therapy also helps the patient and their family members extend and solidify their gains made in treatment. Continuing care is offered to patients who have successfully completed an intensive level of therapy.
It is recommended that patients stay with this level of care for a period of two (2) years and are welcomed in The Counseling Center for as long as they may need.
